More S foods....soup, smoothie, summer

You know, I make smoothies every morning throughout the summer and I don't think I've ever posted about them. Not much to say, I'm sure I do this the same way as most people. Stock up on fruit, slice and freeze it, then blend with yogurt. I like to add orange juice to ours...that would probably be the only difference.

Soup--I love soup. I'm trying to branch out. I adore tomato based soups, but feel that I need some variety in the soup of life. Here's a White Bean and Kale soup, from Bon Appetit. They refer to it as "stew" but mine didn't thicken enough for me to consider it officially a stew. So, soup it is. It was quite tasty last night, I ate two bowls. I bet it will be even better today.

I bought some pyrex bowls to take to work and heat in the microwave after reading the 10,000th article about how I'm surely going to have poisoning from heating and eating my food in plastic. So, I'm healthier, now. Of course, I have 10 years of daily plastic toxins in me, but we'll worry about that later. Where do you guys stand on the heating of lunch? Do you microwave plastic?

Safe trip, you lucky duckies! I don't microwave in plastic, but I prefer to use glass for storage anyway. Just one of my peculiarities! I'm growing kale this year; I've never had it, so I'll have to remember your soup.

I make Husband lunches with the plastic containters from the Chinese place we order. They have the best seals...they are not the styrofoam ones most use.

Now for home and the kids, I never reheat in plastic. I put it on a napkin or a plate.

Your trip sounds amazing! I can't wait to see the pics.

Doggy--Man, I'm horrible. I use teflon all the time, too. I guess I'll worry about when I start glowing at night ;)

Buffalo--I'm so excited!!!

Jenn--will do!! I can't wait to head out :)

Marjie--smart! You know, this is good, but there is a chickpea and kale dish I made before that like even better...

Tommie--yeah, our chinese place uses those containers, too. I usually give them to Tavo because he has a horrible habit of losing all my tupperware containers ;)

Mmm, soup and smoothie both look good. I try not to microwave in plastic. Matt scolds me. But when I'm at work, sometimes it's impossible to avoid!

I had never heard of Malt O Meal either until I read Megan's blog. But my buddy Libby, who grew up in San Antonio, adores it. But our stores only carry the plain kind on the top shelf, so I don't think it's extremely popular here.
