Weekend of Favorite Foods--sandwiches!

What are your favorite foods? Seriously--when all is said and done, what will you make for yourself and know that NO RESTAURANT will ever make this dish as well as you? We were on a sandwich kick this weekend--here are our favorites.

BBQ Tempeh and Slaw sandwich

Not that I've actually seen this advertised at restaurants, but this is one of my favorite go-to sandwiches. I don't remember what book I scrawled the tempeh recipe out of--so I don't think I should post the exact recipe. Basically, it's a mix of oil, soy sauce, maple syrup, cumin, and garlic. Marinate for a few hours to overnight, and bake at 350 for 30 minutes. I bake it right in the marinade. These little tempeh nuggets are great on salad or in sandwiches.

I make somewhat of an Asian coleslaw mix--still your basic mayo, honey and vinegar (I use rice vinegar) but add some ginger, sesame oil and sesame seeds to the mix. Yum!

Tavo also leaned towards cabbage this weekend, but he chose the fermented type. A Reuben, with so many substitutions that I'm not sure if it can even be called a reuben anymore.

Ham Reuben with Havarti on Wheat -- blasphemy or delicious?

Tavo declared it delicious.

Pizza is another one that I make very well--but I love it so much I will try it from pretty much any reputable pizza spot. This pic is obviously homemade, though ;)

So--what dish do you make better than the restaurant?

Ham and Havarti isn't a Reuben, but it is a classic pairing of deli meat and cheese!
Better than a restaurant? BB-Q and chili, that's for sure...

Yummy sandwiches! I love the combo of ham and harvati, that sounds excellent!

Ham and havarti sounds great, but without the corned beef, it just isn't a reuben. Still, a great sandwich. I love coleslaw, too. And the fence in your previous post will make your yard feel nice - privacy is a big deal to me.

lets see - hmmm well - there are quite a few things I can make better than a restaurant but if I had to name only one then hands down it would be any kind of eggs benedict.

You two are so adorable, you remind me of my daughter & her fiance , they just left ATL for San Antonio, ( got job offers they could not refuse ) I want to link them up to your blog & make them homesick for ATL !!!!

Dan--yeah!!! We might have to roadtrip out to South Carolina this weekend...

Buffalo--I guess it isn't, huh? Ooooh--yes, I'm always disappointed in restaurant chili.

5 Star--it worked out quite well!

Marjie--yep, not a reuben. Still tasty, though. Yes--I couldn't be more ecstatic about that fence!

Doggy--All of your eggs look pretty amazing!!

Southside--thanks! Yeah, I love Atlanta, but definitely understand the allure of a good job. San Antonio is a pretty cool town, too.

I agree on the sandwiches. Pasta dishes would have to another one for me. That's one this I can make really well. I could bust out a pasta dish any day, any time.

Your sammies sound awesome...I'm a big sandwich fan, for sure! I have some tempeh on my need to use list, so this is tempting me!! I make mole (w/ the emphasis mark over the e...which I don't know how to do) better than any restaurant!
