Camping, potatoes and tomatoes

In a relationship, compromise is what makes most things work, right? Nobody, ever, goes through life without a few strong opinions of their own. Siblings and parents will help you form those--just do whatever they don't want you to do ;) That's how it should be--give a little, take a little, and play the game with a bit of respect. I admit, I'm the type who hates to lose! So, somehow, I talked Tavo into camping in North Georgia with me over the weekend.
Tavo does NOT like to camp. A few years of active duty for our country seems to have that effect on most everyone. I am very appreciative of his willingness to brave the wilderness (state park, 45 minutes from Atlanta--hot showers and flushing toilets) with me. You know what? I honestly think, after the first initial shock, that he had an okay time...

Our abode--sight distance from said toilets and showers...
Foil wrapped goodie on the fire--irregardless of camping, Tavo can build a fire from anything within about 5 minutes. We let it get down to coals for cooking.
Sweet potatoes, onions, potatoes, butter and salt. So simple, yet when you cook it right, you don't need much more.
Unless, of course, you feel like some delicious ramen soup and a beer ;)
We came home to find two ripe tomatoes ready for the picking! Yum.

ETSY shop is coming soon....

I'd love to camping! I actually walking with a friends about making a trip up to big bear.

Those tomatoes look luscious. I can just imagine that in a salsa of some kind. Mmmm...

Fun! I do like to camp, but we camped in Southern Georgia a couple of years ago, and saw a sign that said beware of alligators...ummmm...didn't like that so much.

My wifes idea of roughing it, is going to a Motel Six instead of a Marriot...We camped when we were young and broke, and she never once enjoyed it!

is that gravel or asphalt under your tent? is tavos tatoo new zealand inspired or alaska inspired? or is it something inca? thats all the questions I have for now!

Jenn--we're thinking the same thing! I think we've got a jalapeno almost ready :)

Girli--I've seen those same signs in FL and AL, too--luckily, no alligators up here.

Buffalo--Tavo pretty much shares your wife's opinion...but I'm working at it!

5 Star--I love camping! Sweet potatoes were excellent :)

Doggy--1. Gravel--I was concerned at first but it wasn't uncomfortable. 2. It's Haida--so you are correct with the Alaska guess :)

I think I will be with Buffalo's wife at the Motel 6!

Those food pockets do look yummy. Reminds me of something my mom used to make. She added hotdogs!

I spoke with a native alaskan last month and learned, much to my surprise, that the polynesians were originally from alaska....

Tavo looks like he had a good time. Sometimes beer just makes everything better!

Buffalo stole my line. I told my dearly beloved 30 years ago that my idea of roughing it is a hotel without room service; he has never doubted or tested me. However, I do like to light a nice fire outside, and I'm pretty good at it. I don't cook outside, but your packets looked pretty nice. Some fresh fish in there would have been awesome! And those are some fine looking tomatoes!

You guys ae so funny. I do not like camping too much because you are stripped from that comfort level that you have at home. It is not for everyone. Maybe camping for a few hours and going back home but not for more than 24 hours. Ramen is so comforting thats why Tavo was eating it at that time. Good idea with the potato pockets. They require no prep at the campsite
